What is Vaginal Steaming (V-Steam™) Treatment?
The vagina is an extremely intimate area that withstands a lot. From menstruation, sexual intercourse, childbirth, changing hormones, and pelvic floor issues, there are many things that can cause pain and discomfort to the vaginal area. But it doesn’t have to be that way!
Vaginal steaming, also known as v-steaming or yoni steaming, is an ancient healing practice that has been used by Mayan, Native American, Asian, and other cultures throughout the years for centuries. It is a natural way to cleanse the uterus, release toxins and old residue. The V-Steam™ at VSPOT is a relaxing, soothing, detoxifying spa treatment for your nether regions that increases your libido, effectively reducing discomfort associated with menstruation.
Benefits of Vaginal Steaming
While vaginal steaming is typically used during postpartum care, it can help other gynecological issues including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, menopause, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), cysts, and yeast infections. Some of the many benefits of this treatment include:
- Increases circulation to vaginal tissues and pelvic floor
- Helps clear congested blood to improve menstrual flow and regulate periods
- Decreases uncomfortable period cramping
- Increases cervical fluid
- Relaxes the vaginal canal and cervix
How V-Steam™ Works
When you arrive at our New York office, you will relax in a dimly lit room on a spa bed. Once you are comfortable, soft steam infused with therapeutic herbs is targeted toward your nether regions. VSPOT’s proprietary formulation of herbs, which include basil, calendula, mugwort, marshmallow root, wormwood, and rose petals, is placed in a tube on the steamer that contains purified water. The herbal infused steam dilates your blood vessels to increase blood circulation by providing oxygen to the area, and in turn, relaxes the pelvic floor muscles. As you get steamed, cleaned, and pampered, a technician will expertly massage your abdomen with remedial oil. To finish the treatment, an LED light is placed over your lady bits. According to Dr. Carolyn DeLucia, “The blue LED has been studied to have antibacterial effects on Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and Staphylococcus Aureus, which are commonly found on the vulva and may cause odor.”
When Should I Schedule My V-Steam™ Spa Appointment?
It’s important to note that you should not schedule a vaginal steaming appointment while you are on your menstrual cycle, suffering from an acute infection, or during the presence of vaginal sores or blisters. For women who suffered from dilation and curettage (D&C) or miscarriage, we recommend waiting three weeks to ensure there is no infection. If you have recently given birth via vaginal delivery, we recommend waiting 6 to 8 weeks after the bleeding stops, again to ensure there is no infection.
If you are steaming for preventative care, it is best to steam one week before the first day of your period or one week after.
